hunter-gatherer cavemen had more free time than you do.
to date, we have discovered 4 completely different species of intelligent hominids that all shared the world 30,000 years ago. homo sapiens, which won the survival game, homo neanderthalenis, who lived in ice age europe, interbred with us a bit and then got bumped off by us, a tiny relative of homo erectus that we've taken to calling the 'flores hobbits', and a recently discovered species that lived in siberia.

homo erectus spread out from africa first, followed by neanderthals about 450,000 years ago, and 'modern' humans about 60,000 years ago.
