harvard university, quaker oats, and m.i.t. used mentally disabled children at massachusetts' fernald school as guineau pigs. they told the students involved that they were part of a special 'science club', and fed them radioactive cereal from 1946 until 1953 without their parents' consent.

the u.s. government frequently experiments on its citizens without their knowledge and consent. this happened to albert stevens, who was injected with a fatal amount of plutonium so that scientists could see what happened to his body as a result - including how long he took to die.

the accumulated dose that stevens received was equivalent to 6400 rem. the maximum dose allowed by law for a radiation worker in the u.s. is 5 rem.

during the 1950's and 1960's, the u.s. army sprayed zinc cadmium sulfide laced with radioactive particles on thousands of people in st. louis and corpus christi. no one was told. the army just wanted to see what would happen. in corpus christi, the spray was delivered via planes. in st. louis, station wagons and sprayers mounted on buildings were used.
